The first Annapurna Marathon above 8000 meters was jointly organized by Adventure Sports Tourism Society, Pokhara Tourism Council, Nepal Trekking Association, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Western Hotel Association, Sanctuary Tourism Association, Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, Lali Gurans Youth Club, Himalayan Expedition, Annapurnas News, Western Region Development Committee and District Sports Development Committee, Kaski.
Annapurna Marathon was successfully completed in the memory of Maurice Herzog, the first person to ascend Mt. Annapurna on June 3, 1950 and the first Tourism Minister Dr Harka Bahadur Gurung.
Tirtha Bahadur Tamang of Nepal Army got first position in the 42.195 km long Annapurna Marathon held on June 3, 2011. The high elevation marathon initiated from Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) to Dhampus in Kaski district. Tirtha Bahadur Tamamg had finished the grand race in 4 hours 23 minutes and 29 seconds. Likewise, Purna Bahadur Tamang of Army obtained second position, finishing the race in 4 hours 23 minutes 51 seconds and eventually, Samir Tamang clocked 4 hours 35 minutes 7 minutes for the third position.
Similarly, Yangdi Lama Sherpa, three times winner of Everest Marathon of Solukhumbu won the women’s category by accomplishing the race in 6 hours 2 minutes 2 seconds while Dolma Sherpa of the same district gained the second position by finishing the race in 7 hours 31 minutes and 48 seconds and finally, Parbati Kumari Bista clocked 7 hours 51 minutes 40 seconds to secure third position.
The winner of men’s side was felicitated the award with Rs. 50,000 while the second and the third got Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 respectively.
Similarly, from the female competitors, the winners received Rs. 25,000 while the second and the third achieved Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively.
